“The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.

Visser is the dutch word for fisherman. Fishermen traditionally vote republican, so the Obama administration suspected a trap.

Geert Visser; that name sounds so... familiar...

I think Obama enjoys being a celebrity more than he enjoys the work of being President. He likes people wondering what he's doing on vacation, where he's going to eat, and having his thoughts on trivial stuff like LeBron James and Armando Galarraga's perfect game be front page news on ESPN.com more than he does the actual job.

It's just like he was in the Senate. Even Harry Reid told Obama himself that he knew he wasn't going to make much of a senator because he didn't enjoy the work of it. I think that's just translating over to being President. He likes the attention and the notoriety the best, and he leaves the details of passing health care to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the details of cleaning up the oil spill to the executives whose asses need to be kicked, and the details of cleaning up after the Nashville flood to . . . well I'm not sure he even realizes there was a flood in Nashville yet but at least we're getting the job done without him.

There was a flood in Nashville? When? Oh well, doesn't really matter, it wasn't New Orleans. Must be more conservatives in Nashville.

Obama would have made a great president in the late 1990s when there were few big crises and the government ran a surplus budget. Now, not so much.

If one Phoenix school district is any gauge, Hispanics in Arizona appear to be leaving the state in anticipation of the tough-on-illegal-immigration law that goes into effect at the end of July

Smith suggested the immigrant flight from Arizona could be even more significant this time around, since the new law's provisions are broad and could drive entire families to leave the state. Smith said he's hearing secondhand that the families are going to New Mexico.

"The statement is something like New Mexico is the way Arizona used to be," he said. "I heard one lady say she might go back to Mexico."

Folks in New Mexico must be thrilled

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/10/experts-say-obama-misrepresented-views-justify-offshore-drilling-ban/

The seven experts who advised President Obama on how to deal with offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon explosion are accusing his administration of misrepresenting their views to make it appear that they supported a six-month drilling moratorium -- something they actually oppose.

The Administration misrepresented something for political gain? How can that be with this most ethical regime?

Kagan role in Clinton sex harassment suit withheld

By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS Associated Press Writer updated 3:54 p.m. ET, Fri., June 11, 2010

WASHINGTON - Bill Clinton's presidential library won't publicly release memos and notes Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan wrote about the sexual harassment lawsuit that triggered Clinton's impeachment.

Kagan was involved in defending Clinton in the lawsuit brought by ex-Arkansas state worker Paula Jones, according to documents released Friday. Clinton's testimony for the Jones lawsuit, denying a sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, led to his impeachment.

The library held back several of Kagan's memos to Clinton's top advisers in the case, saying that publicly releasing them would divulge confidential advice. They were turned over to the Senate Judiciary Committee that will hold hearings on Kagan's nomination, however.

I'm not a big fan of Kagan, but Obama won the election, she is his pick, and he should be allowed to put folks on the Court who reflect his views, even if they are at odds with mine or with a majority in the Senate (which is not to say that her views are).

But the Senate certainly should be entitled to see anything she wrote or prepared while in government employment, including on this issue. Might be interesting to see if perhaps she actually advised Clinton on his perjury about Lewinsky, perhaps even urging him to deny any relationship with her. Then what would the effect on her ratification be if it were to come to light that she counseled the president to commit perjury during his deposition in the Jones case, or if she was informed after the fact and discouraged coming clean about it.

You would have to think that might hurt her nomination chances.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't the recently fired head of Minerals Management Service a Clinton appointee?

Jes is right. Obama won the election, and he gets to pick the judicial nominees. They should NOT be ruled out because of their judicial theories.
