So,who's it gonna be?

Maybe the new guy will know how to evaluate OL.
"If you ask me, they fired the wrong guy."
Thats about how I have it pegged

Do any of us really know? Come on no way. Could be DePaul was busting his ass the first few years, then has been playing golf and drinking beer for the last few. Maybe he got a huge inheritance, maybe he just got a mid life crisis, maybe, maybe, maybe.
I really don't know, but hoping that he was the problem...cause we definitely need to get a few players this off season and fill some holes.

Now I see speculation where Gabriel (director of scouting) and Bream (head trainer) may be getting a visit from The Turk as well.
It sure is starting to look like Angelo (and/or Phillips) is purging everyone that has made Angelo look bad these last three seasons. Too bad that purge probably won't include a few players.

DePaul is highly thought of through out the league. Hell last year we were worried we would lose him.
Angelo is trying to save his ass same as Lovie did.

So all the competent personnel guys are shipping-out, and the idiot with the biggest badge is staying.
Nice. Sounds like just about every mismanaged corporation in America these days.
Also begs the question... if Angelo is so confident in the "guys we've got" (as he's on record saying), why are the people on the way out who were ostensibly reponsible for finding those guys in the first place? Something really is not adding up here.
that's a good point...

From the Tribune article on DePaul's potential replacement.
Ruskell allowed All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson to depart in free agency to the Minnesota Vikings. He spent big on free-agent wide receivers Deion Branch and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He also paid big bucks to running back Shaun Alexander after his MVP season, only to watch him fade quickly.
Ick. But of course here's the payoff statement:
Ruskell worked under Angelo for 14 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So basically we are collecting Tampa Bay & Seattle personnel people and St. Louis & Detroit coaches. That's four of the 6 or 7 worst teams in the league the last few seasons. Tice from Jacksonville is the only one that's even had a sniff at winning in recent history.
It would certainly appear that all the losers are marching like lemmings to Chicago for one final desperate attempt. It will either be a redemption story for the ages or an epic clusterfuck that gets them all bounced.

Someone on a blog was "reporting" that Martz wanted the Bears to pick up Torry Holt and DePaul said no way and that's why he was canned.
If that is true and Martz is already in a position of dictating changes in the personnel office, that gives you a pretty clear indication of how the power structure is shaping up at Halas Hall. The problem is, I don't see Ruskell being in any way better than DePaul and in fact he's probably worse. Or at least, appears to be far less respected around the league than DePaul.
It could also explain why Gabriel (scouting) and Bream (trainer) are reportedly on the hot seat as well... could be Martz watched film and decided that 1) we haven't drafted enough good players and 2) we have too many guys getting hurt too often and healing too slowly -- both of which are true -- and so now the attention is going to the two guys responsible for that.
And if that is all true and Martz and Marc Bulger are on good terms, I fully expect Bulger to be one of our offseason acquisitions.

Actually Lovie and DePaul have been at odds for a long time. So it is more like Lovie has more power then Angelo then a Martz deal. Lovie is backing Martz and Lovie has more pwoer then Angelo.
Plus DePaul has been rumored to be leaving for awhile so I think Angelo shitcanned DePaul so he could get his other buddy Ruskell while he still had some power.
We the fans could know who is worth firing and who is worth keeping if we knew who was pushing for which free agents and who was against them. Sadly we will never know that.
My guess is we are seeing just more cover your ass moves.

If DePaul is as smart as he's rumored to be, I can't see him having been on-board with signing guys like Pace or Bullocks, or trading for Gaines Adams. Not counting the Cutler trade (whose outcome remains to be determined), and Tinosamoa before he got hurt, this last offseason of FA pickups and trades turned out the worst we've seen in a long time. I would not be at all surprised if Lovie and/or Angelo pulled rank on him on at least some of those deals. If I would have been DePaul and that happened to me I would have been pissed as hell and started looking for a way out too.

If a lot of our players don't look a hell of a lot better this coming season, I think Angelo and Ruskell will both be on the first train out.

Personally I think this next season will be a disaster. I think everyone gets fired.
However I am hoping Martz gets the offense clicking and the D feeds off the points and things get rolling. I feel the odds of that are slim to none.
My guess is the offense is awesome some games terrible others and mediocre a lot. The D will be terrible pretty much the whole time. Pretty much a repeat of last year but I am guessing the D is even worse the O a little better.

Agreed. I think Cutler and our WRs will look much better. Or at least I hope so. A lot of that is going to hinge on our OL. I think Olsen will wind up in Martz' doghouse and basically disappear. TE is the one position in Martz' offense where tough, physical play is demanded and that's not Olsen at all. I don't think Forte will run for as many yards as he did his rookie season but I do think with a healthy knee and Martz' offense spreading out the D he will improve his yards per carry and be the freshest at the end of the season that he's ever been. I also think he will make hay as a reciever in Martz' system and could wind up with 500 or 600 yards of catches which would make it very possible for him to crack 1,500 yards from scrimmage.
OTOH I think our D will be as frustrating to watch as it's been the last two years with stretches of being just brutally bad. I have no confidence Tommie Harris will be any better than he was this year and I don't think getting Urlacher back is going to help this D as much as some might think or hope. Any gains we get from having Urlacher back will be negated by continuing poor DL and safety play. Our D needs some serious philsophical adjustments and a size-15 kick in the ass and with no big changes apparently forthcoming on either the coaching or player side I just don't see any rationale for expecting improvement.
